Patheon Inc., a multinational company focused on contract drug development and manufacturing services for the pharmaceutical industry, decided to divest its Mexican operations. Operating under the Gelcaps name, the Mexican entity was primarily focused on manufacturing softgel products for the Latin American market, sold under local brands, a business model which was not compatible with Patheon’s. Having acquired the Gelcaps business as a result of larger acquisition, Patheon engaged RIóN to assist them in its divestiture process.
RIóN developed the list of potential buyers, based on our knowledge of the individual business models and potential synergies with the Gelcaps business, and conducted a competitive auction process with tight deadlines. Within Patheon’s stipulated timeframe we were able to successfully sell the Gelcaps business at a value above initial expectations.
